From Pilot to Production: Reflections on McKinsey's State of AI 2025
McKinsey has just published its new “State of AI 2025” and the data is clear: 88% of companies are already using AI, but almost two-thirds are still in the testing or pilot phase, with no real impact at scale. At the same time, more than half acknowledge that AI is already helping them innovate and differentiate themselves from the competition, although only a minority still see a significant effect on their global EBIT.

The phrase “The cost of doing nothing” is common in finance and climate crisis debates, but it sparks ideas for me in other areas, both personal and professional.
On climate, the tone is alarmist—and likely with reason—arguing that if we do not act urgently, the problem doubles every few years until no force can stop it.
It is about “bad” inertia: once the train picks up too much speed, we cannot stop it from the platform with bare strength.
